Tributes to Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton

Commander Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton was a British general and irrigation engineer who lived from 1803 to 1899. Cotton dedicated his life to building irrigation and navigation canals across British India. He aided many people in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India by constructing the Dowleswaram Barrage (Rajahmundry, East Godavari District), the Prakasam Barrage (Vijayawada), and the Kurnool Cuddappah Canal.

Dowleswaram Barrage is an irrigation construction located in Dowleswaram, on the Godavari River's lower reaches before it drains into the Bay of Bengal. Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton, designed and built the barrage.

He is therefore renowned in the Godavari Districts for turning it into Andhra Pradesh's "rice bowl." Because of his pioneering work in irrigation engineering, he is regarded as the Godavari District's "Delta Architect."

I am proud to having been born in Amalapuram, East Godavari District, and to have had my education in Krishna District (Vijayawada). I pay my respects to Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton today, May 15, 2022, on his birthday.
