Part 1: "The Prelude to Democracy"

Join me as I reflect on a lifetime of voting commitment and the power of National Voters' Day pledges on the eve of the Telangana Legislative Assembly Elections 2023. Stay tuned for more on Election Day!

The Telangana Legislative Assembly Elections 2023 are taking place today from 7am till 5pm. I find myself reflecting on the profound responsibility and privilege that comes with being a voter. Since I first exercised my franchise in 1977 Indian general election polls in united Andhra Pradesh state, voting has become more than just a civic duty—it's a personal commitment to shaping the future of our democratic nation.

A Lifelong Commitment to Voting:

For me, the act of voting is not merely a choice; it's a consistent commitment. Since the age of 18, I have made it a point to cast my vote in every election, recognizing the significance of contributing to the democratic process. This commitment has evolved into a personal tradition, a ritual that symbolizes my dedication to the principles of democracy.

National Voters' Day Pledge:

Every year, on January 25th, the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, I take a solemn pledge as part of National Voters' Day. This annual ritual serves as a powerful reminder of the responsibility that comes with being a voter. It's more than just a ceremony; it's a reaffirmation of my role in shaping the destiny of our nation through the power of the ballot.

SVEEP - Empowering Voters Digitally:

The flagship program of the Election Commission of India, Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), plays a crucial role in voter education and awareness. Recently, I took a pledge online through the SVEEP website at https://ecisveep.nic.in/pledge/. This digital commitment not only served as a personal acknowledgment but also resulted in a digital certificate, symbolizing the government's recognition of my dedication to the democratic process.

Pledging for Purpose:

Taking a pledge ahead of Election Day serves a purpose beyond the symbolic act itself. It's a commitment to go beyond the routine, treating Election Day not as a holiday but as a day of civic duty. The intention is to inspire others within my network to recognize the importance of casting their votes, emphasizing that it's not just a right but a responsibility.

Wisdom from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam:

As I prepare to cast my vote in the upcoming elections, the words of the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (former President of India ) resonate in my mind:

"Remember, for your progress, for your welfare, and for your happiness, never fail to cast your vote in elections."

These words encapsulate the essence of our democratic system, emphasizing the pivotal role each voter plays in steering the nation toward progress and prosperity.

As the Telangana Legislative Assembly Elections 2023 draw near, I stand firm in my commitment to the democratic process. The act of voting is not just a civic responsibility; it's a personal pledge to contribute to the collective voice of the people.

Stay tuned for updates on the eve of the big day!
