Why Cancer Awareness Is Real Wealth?
On this Choti Diwali โ victory over darkness, plus health, protection, and gratitude, it is appropriate to observe National Cancer Awareness Day 7th November, 2026.
For those unfamiliar, Choti Diwali, also called Naraka Chaturdashi, is the second day of Diwali. It celebrates Lord Krishna's victory over the demon Narakasura โ the victory of light over darkness, of good habits over bad habits, of courage over fear. In the evening we light Yam Deepdaan, a small diya for protection and long life.
Today, November 7, is also National Cancer Awareness Day in India. Since 2014, on Marie Curie's birthday (1867). Focus: early detection, prevention, screening, National Cancer Control Programme. Theme: United by Unique.
Marie Curie, who gave her life to science and radiation, reminds us that knowledge, when used early, saves lives.
I observe this National Cancer Awareness Day in honour of my mother as a tribute to my mother died of cancer.
My mother Smt. Susarla Sitaratnam left for her Heavenly Abode on Monday, the 8th September, 2014 at Hyderabad, India. https://www.suryanarayana.com/parents
My mother was my first teacher. She taught me communication abilities, discipline, devotion, and the value of simple living. She taught me that a clean home is Lakshmi, a clean heart is character, and a healthy body is the greatest wealth. When she left us, I understood what every cancer family understands โ cancer does not just affect one person, it affects an entire family, emotionally, financially, and spiritually.
That is why I write this today, not as a professional, but as a son.
As an author and compliance governance professional (Company Secretary), I have learnt: Real wealth is Compliance + Credibility + Health. In governance, early compliance prevents crisis. In health, early detection prevents tragedy. Prevention is better than cure โ in both.
Cancer is not one disease. Each person is unique โ their cancer, their treatment, their journey. That is the meaning of this year's theme: United by Unique. We must be united in awareness, but personal in care.
My humble request today: Book one screening. Encourage your mother, father, wife, brother, friend to screen. Share this information: https://en.vikaspedia.in/viewcontent/health/health-campaigns/important-days/national-cancer-awareness-day
Gold will shine for a day. Good health will shine for a lifetime. Good habits will shine for generations.
This Choti Diwali, light one diya for your home, one for your health, and one in memory of someone you lost to cancer.
Memory must become mission. Today, on this National Cancer Awareness Day, I have initiated to invite the Rotary Club to conduct a Cancer Screening Camp in our gated community. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CMypALKsV/
I do not want another family to go through what my family went through. If this camp helps even one person detect cancer early, my tribute to my mother will be complete. I invite Service Above Self individuals across India to replicate this in every community.
