Failure A setback, not a final verdict

October 13 is observed as the International Day for Failure, an occasion that invites us to reconsider our attitude towards failure.

Many people fear failure. They hesitate to begin a new venture, abandon a worthwhile objective after a setback, or lose confidence when their efforts do not produce immediate results.

Yet failure is a part of learning, innovation, and personal development.

A plan may not work as expected. A decision may prove incorrect. An objective may remain unfulfilled despite sincere effort. These experiences can be disappointing, but they can also help us understand what needs to change.

The important question is not simply, โ€œWhy did I fail?" It is also, โ€œWhat can I learn, and what will I do next?"

Why self-motivation matters

Knowing what we want to accomplish is one thing. Maintaining the determination to accomplish it is another.

Enthusiasm may be strong at the beginning of a journey. However, difficulties, delays, distractions, and disappointments can weaken our resolve.

This is where self-motivation becomes essential.

Self-motivation helps us reconnect with our objectives, take responsibility for our progress, and continue working even when external encouragement is limited.

It does not mean ignoring failure or pretending that every attempt will succeed. It means developing the ability to learn, adapt, and make another constructive effort.

Five ways to move forward after failure

  1. Accept the setback. Recognize what happened without allowing one disappointing outcome to define your abilities or your future.

  2. Identify the lesson. Examine your preparation, decisions, resources and approach. Determine what you could improve.

  3. Revisit your objective. Check whether your goal remains worthwhile. If it does, adjust the plan where necessary.

  4. Take a small, practical step. A large objective becomes less intimidating when divided into manageable actions.

  5. Nurture your self-motivation. Remind yourself why the objective matters, recognise your progress, and seek support when you need it.

Perseverance does not mean repeating an ineffective approach indefinitely. Sometimes, the wisest way forward is to change the method, revise the timeline or choose a more appropriate goal.

My book Self MOTIVATION 111

My belief in the importance of self-motivation inspired me to write

Self MOTIVATION 111 Get Your Objectives Accomplished & Not Give Up Halfway

Paperback:

The book explores practical strategies for setting short-term and long-term goals, finding motivation, overcoming fears and challenges, drawing inspiration from the experiences of others, and applying self-motivation in studies, work, and personal life.

Its central message is relevant to anyone who has started something worthwhile but struggled to maintain momentum.

We cannot always control the obstacles we encounter. However, we can work on our response to them.

We can learn to recognize our fears, review our priorities, strengthen our determination and take the next step.

A message for International Day for Failure

As we observe this day, let us create a healthier attitude towards failure.

Let us encourage people to attempt worthwhile things, learn from mistakes and share the lessons they gain from difficult experiences.

Let us also remember that success is not always immediate. Progress may be slow, and our plans may need revision. What matters is that we respond thoughtfully rather than surrendering to discouragement.

The moment you want to give up is the exact moment you need to pause, reflect and rediscover your motivation.

Do not let one failure write the final chapter of your story.

Learn from the past. Act in the present. Work towards a better future.
