[MemoirBlogthon #6] For forty years, my mother worshipped the Rajarajeswari Chakram, the sacred geometric symbol of the divine feminine. When my parents relocated in 2009, my father faced a logistical and spiritual challenge: how to continue the daily rituals? His solution was a thoughtful and permanent act: a donation to the Sankara Math in Vijayawada, ensuring the Chakram's worship would continue eternally through a dedicated priest. This memory is a beautiful lesson in how to combine modern-day logistics with deep spiritual commitment, making sure that our family's most important tradition would live on.

How My Father Ensured the Legacy of Our Rajarajeswari Chakram

For four decades, the Rajarajeswari Chakram, a sacred geometric diagram or Sri Chakra symbolizing the divine feminine and the universe, was the spiritual centerpiece of my parentsโ€™ home. My mother's diligent, daily worship of this powerful symbol, believed to bestow knowledge and spiritual well-being, was a cherished tradition that spanned generations.

In 2009, as my parents prepared to relocate from Vijayawada to Hyderabad to live with me, a critical question arose: Who would care for the daily poojas and rituals of the Chakram?

A Permanent Spiritual Home

My father understood that while modern life often makes daily, intricate home rituals difficult, the spiritual commitment must continue. His solution was a thoughtful act of ensuring religious continuity.

He consulted our family priest, Sri Lanka Sivanandam garu, and they decided that the best way to preserve the sanctity and ensure the relentless daily worship of the Chakram was to place it in a temple. This decision led them to the Sankara Math, Shivalayam in Kamakoti Nagar, Vijayawada, situated on the banks of the sacred Krishna River.

In 2009, my parents enrolled in a permanent donor scheme, donating ten thousand rupees to the Math. This was an official, financial commitment that guaranteed the continued worship and rituals of the Rajarajeswari Chakram by the temple priests.

The Answer to Modern Circumstances

The crucial contrast lies in the tension between tradition and modern life: Do modern circumstances allow this generation to continue the traditions? My father's actions provide the answer. Instead of letting the practice die out because of changes in living arrangements, he made it more permanent and public by moving the worship from a private, personal ritual to a public, permanent, and ongoing one.

Recently, I spoke with Sri Sivanandam garu, who affirmed the continuity of the daily rituals performed in my parents' memory. This third-party validation brings our family immense comfort, knowing that the spiritual anchor of my parents' devotionโ€”this sacred Chakramโ€”will continue to be honored for future generations.

The enduring legacy of this moment is the profound ethical 'why': my father taught us that devotion to heritage and spiritual practice is not merely about physical presence; it is about establishing a structure that guarantees the continuity of the tradition, demonstrating that the blessings of the Rajarajeswari Chakram will remain accessible to the family and the community for time to come.
