[MemoirBlogthon #94] Winning the Best Chapter award in 1996 was a milestone, but it was not the end goal. This blog details the over three decades I dedicated to teaching and training aspirants across various professional institutes, including ICSI, ICWAI, and Chartered Accountants, private coachings, Banks and corporates and NGOs like Rotary Clubs. Starting with Foundation level, I soon specialized in the core subject, "Company Secretarial Practice." My success lay in my sincerity, which earned me feedback ratings consistently ranging from 90% to 98%. My father, ever the keen observer, saw this commitment as an inherited trait, often commenting that I had emulated the "commitment and grit" of my own grandfather in preparing for every session far exceeding the organizers' logistics.

While administrative success was fulfilling, my personal commitment to the profession continued unabated in the classroom, where, for over two decades, I focused my dedication on teaching the core subjects and still continued training the next generation of company secretaries.
The Commitment to the Core Subject 📖
Receiving the Best Chapter Chairman award was a profound validation of my administrative and organizational skills, but it did not lead to complacency. My true passion lay in sharing knowledge, a mission I pursued for over two decades.
My teaching career began in 1991 when I was given the opportunity to take oral coaching classes for the Foundation level students of ICSI. Soon, I was assigned to teach the core subject: "Company Law and Secretarial Practice," a subject essential for passing the final exams.
My first employed office was conveniently located near the Chapter premises, which allowed me to seek prior one-time permission from my employer to take classes in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. My academic interest quickly spread beyond ICSI, leading me to teach at other professional institutes, including the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants (ICWAI), Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bhadruka College, and various private coaching centers for Chartered Accountants.
Wherever I taught, I earned a reputation for my sincere preparation and output, ensuring students were equipped not just for exams, but for the profession.
The Trainer's Professional Procedures 🧑🏫
Beyond classroom teaching, I dedicated myself to various structured training and orientation sessions organized by ICSI through its local chapters, regional centers, and research centers. These programs were vital for shaping new professionals:
Induction programs for students entering the CS course.
Orientation Programmes for intermediate-level completed students of CS and ICWAI
Secretarial Modular Training Programs (SMTP) for final passed students.
Management of Secretarial Orientation Programmes (MSOP) in 15 days training for budding professionals.
Company Leadership Development Programmes (CLDP) for upcoming professionals.
Orientation sessions on company law for bank officers.
Rotary avenues of services trainings at club level and district level

In every session, online or physical program, regardless of its duration—be it one hour, half-day, or all day—the feedback I received was consistently phenomenal. My rating, based on the written feedback from participants and organizers, was consistently in the range of 90% to 98%. The organizers were not only appreciative of my content but were highly impressed with the professional procedures I adopted before, during, and after the sessions in addition to providing resource material. They were so convinced of my methodology that they would often brief participants beforehand on the requirements, including the discipline to be followed during my practical sessions and exercises.
The Grandfather's Legacy of Grit 💎
Every time I returned from a session, I would share the written feedback from the participants with my father. He used to observe that my commitment was an inherited trait, often commenting,
"You have emulated the skill of your grandfather (my father's father, whose vocation was teacher and by name also Suryanarayana) as far as commitment and grit to prepare for every session much more than the organizers prepare for the logistics."This comparison to my namesake grandfather—a man I knew for his dedication—was the highest form of appreciation. It validated that the sincerity I brought to preparation, often exceeding the logistical planning of the event organizers, was the real secret behind the near-perfect ratings.
This relentless dedication to teaching and training, driven by inherited grit and commitment, became the true foundation of my professional "giving back" for over thirty years.
Emulating my teacher grandfather’s "commitment and grit," this dedication to training defined my legacy, earning the respect of organizers and students, and proving that service is measured not by awards, but by the quality of preparation.
